Those who know me know that when I find several decor objects that go well together, let's say a chair with a carpet and table I'll say "that's a good story". The way we design and decorate the rooms in our homes tells the stories of who we are. When I'm designing a room for a shoot or an interior I always consider the story I want to tell. Do I want to convey warmth, coolness, modernity, a return to the past, etc can all be expressed through color choices, design styles, wall art and decorative objects. Decide what your story is and go from there. A successful design always reflects its inhabitant. Consider how furniture relates to a floor covering or a wall covering and from there build your story accordingly. The structural elements should always be designed first, the walls and floors and from there you can create a stunning tableau.
