this sweet/spicy dish can be made with any type of protein, tofu, tempeh, i used vegan chick*n patties from Gardein but works well with anything and great served over rice. Here‘s how I do it :
Ingredients
1 head of broccoli cut into florets
1 dozen or so protein pieces of choice cut into 2” pieces
3 cloves garlic chopped
1” ginger grated
1/2 tsp hot chili flakes or paste
1/2 cup water
2 tbs rice vinegar
2 tbs agave nectar
1 tbs orange marmalade
1 tbs oyster sauce
1 tbs soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
2-3 tbs corn starch
In a large skillet add 1” of water and place the florets inside heat on high and steam the broccoli till slightly tender but still crisp. Remove and set aside. Add a little veg oil to the skillet keep heat on medium add the ginger, garlic and chili flakes simmer 2-3 mins. Add all the liquid ingredients to a bowl: water, vinegar, soy, oyster sauce, marmalade, agave and sesame oil, set aside. Add the broccoli to the skillet and simmer 5 mins stirring often with the garlic and ginger. Place your protein in a bowl and toss with corn starch till evenly coated. Add the sauce to the broccoli and simmer 2 mins then push the broccoli to the sides creating an empty spot in center of skillet and add protein and simmer 2 mins per side then stir and combine with the broccoli. I like to add another splash of sesame oil and agave at the end, if too dry add a little water. Serve piping hot over rice or grain of choice.
